Kirk Hammett guitarist of Metallica has posted on his social media channels about the Covid-19 pandemic. In his post he confirmed he was staying inside and staying safe using this time to work on new material.

"Things are most definitely not business-as-usual, but I'm good, staying safe, working on riffs... hope you are all okay out there as well." He said.

It's been a while since Metallica were on the road, as they cancelled a bunch of shows for when James Hetfield was in rehab for his addiction treatment. Metallica announced plans to play two headline sets at a couple of festivals but soon cancelled due to James Hetifeld's treament. The band have shows coming up for Welcome to Rockville, Epicenter and Aftershock Festival but we are still unsure if these shows will go on.

Kirk mentioned he was ready make up for his lack of contribution for Metallica's 2016 album "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct". Kirk is not credited on any of the songs on that album. He told Mixdown Magazine:

"When I was 13-14 years old, bands put out albums every year. Seriously, KISS put out an album every eight months. None of this eight-years-between-albums.

"None of us are very comfortable with the fact it's been so long - because that is a long time. We're hoping to avoid that this time around.

"We're in our third year since 'Hardwired.' Maybe we can get a bit more focus and go into the studio a bit sooner. I have a ton of material. I've over-compensated, so I'm ready to go anytime."

Back in 2016 Metallica's frontman James Hetfield told Metal XS "Kirk's riffs weren't there" Kirk did claim that he recorded a bunch of riffs on his iPhone but his iPhone went missing. Hetfield mentioned the iPhone saga to WRIF radio station

"That's what he claims. I'm sure he did [lose the phone], but it doesn't make sense that he wouldn't have [the music] on his computer, either. But, whatever… Yeah, Kirk had some riffs that he… I guess submitted — ['submit' is] not a very nice word to be used if you're in a band. But you know, we all submit our tapes, and we sit there and we listen to them and we pick the best stuff. There was not much stuff from Kirk. Whether his phone was lost, or whatever…"

Always backup your iPhone, everyone! Well let's hope Kirk backups his new riffs and we can hear some great new songs soon.

Stay safe, everyone!
