Brian May was recently voted the Greatest Rock Guitarist of All Time. The poll was done by Total Guitar Magazine's readers, May has beaten legendary guitarists such as Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Ron Asheton and even Johnny Ramone!

Nuno Bettencourt wrote a congrats note to Brian May on his social media pages “A BIG Congratulations to Brian May.

“You are the Champion... my friend.

“I’m so happy for you getting your overdue praise.

“With respect to Total Guitar, you didn’t have to tell ME.”

The poll had a shortlist of 169 guitarists that was split into six categories: classic rock, blues, heavy metal, shred, indie/alternative and 'best right now'. It was judged by an online poll from fans, and no questions have been raised if it was Brian May who set up AI bots to vote him as number 1.

Brian May was happy with the result and tells Total Guitar Magazine: “I’m absolutely speechless. I’m blown away. I have to say it’s completely unexpected. Obviously I’m deeply touched that people feel that way about me. I’m not under any illusions that, technically, I’m even on the tree of great guitarists. "

May has a PhD in Astronomy so that itself is a humbling experience, as said by the late great Carl Sagan.

In his feelings on beating Jimi Hendrix in the poll, May said
"Oh my god! Well, it is very humbling. Jimi is, of course, my number one. And I've always said that. To me, he's still something superhuman. Its like he really did come from an alien planet, and I will never know quite how he did what he did. And every time I go back to Hendrix, I'm thrilled and stunned, and I get that feeling all over again, like either I'm going to give up playing guitar, because I can't face up to this, or I'm gonna really have to get into it in a big way and try and do what is in my own body and soul. I never stop learning from Jimi. Strangely enough, these days I seldom play his stuff but it's kind of inside my anyway."

Well there you go, Rock n Roll forever!
